Resource curse in sub-Saharan Africa and its effects on citizenship
Abstract:
The essay investigates the intricate relationship between resource curse effects and its consequences on citizenship in countries across sub-Saharan Africa. Resource abundance often leads to economic windfalls, but it can also hinder the development of meaningful citizenship. Through a comprehensive literature review and a case study, this essay explores the mechanisms by which resource wealth can undermine political representation, limit access to social services, and impact the rights and participation of citizens. The findings underline the challenges when dealing with natural resources and the negative effects the resource curse
has on citizenship in Sub-Saharan African nations.
